Same lock, new keys, so the old keys stop working. For buildings, one master key opens the doors you choose.
What is a rekey?
Your lock stays on the door. We change the pins inside it, cut new keys at the shop to match, and the old keys no longer turn. It is the right fix when you move in, lose a key, or a roommate moves out.
When people call us for this
- You moved in and have no idea who still has keys.
- A key ring went missing on the G train.
- A tenant, roommate, employee, or contractor moved on.
- You want one key for the vestibule and your apartment.
- A building wants a master key for the super and separate keys for every unit.
How does a master key system work?
Each door gets its own key, and one master opens all of them, or only the ones you pick. Landlords, managers, and business owners use it so staff carry one key instead of a ring. We plan it with you and keep a record of who holds which key.
How do I start?
Walk in, call, or text photos of the locks. You get a written quote before any work starts.
What happens on the visit?
We come out from the shop with the parts your call or your photo told us to bring. Before we touch anything we show you what is worn, bent, or broken, then we do the work and test every lock and every key with you before we go. If the door itself needs something, we say so and you decide.
Frequently asked
Rekey or replace?
Rekey if the lock still works well. Replace if it is worn or broken. We tell you which fits your door before we start.
Can you rekey one unit without breaking the master?
Yes. We change the unit key and keep the master working, so the building stays on one system.
